Exploring coach mentorship with CAC's Women & Gender Equity in Coaching Project
Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic is proud to be one of 15 sport organizations across the country selected to participate in the Coaching Association of Canada's Women & Gender Equity (WAGE) in Coaching Project.
The WAGE Coaching Project aims to advance gender equality, leadership development and knowledge transfer through a mentorship program for women in coaching and a national Community of Practice led by researchers at UOttawa.
Participating sport organizations will benefit from expert-led education sessions, hands-on experiences, and resources designed to advance gender equity. The initiative will also produce legacy materials, including policy recommendations, new programs, and contributions to conferences and publications.
As part of this work, CSI Atlantic selected two mentor coaches—Emma Delory (rugby) and Ally Merrill (artistic swimming)—who will work closely with mentees Haley McDonald (basketball) and Shayla Gloade (volleyball). In January, the mentor/mentee pairs travelled to Ottawa for a two-day meeting with other mentor and mentee coaches from across sports and the country, as well as the staff from participating sport organizations. They will continue to collaborate on their mentorship plans throughout the 21-month program while CSI Atlantic's Natasha Burgess Johnson and Allison Saunders will contribute to the WAGE Community of Practice.
