Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic Hires the First Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Lead for the Nova Scotia Sport Sector

Equity, diversity, and inclusion lead looks to create a more inclusive sport environment in Nova Scotia
Halifax, N.S. CANADA: Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic (CSI Atlantic) is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrew Paris as the Coaching Lead - Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) and Mentorship. The intention of the position is to increase equity-deserving groups participating and coaching sport at the community level across Nova Scotia.
Andrew Paris brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to the position. Andrew served as the technical director for Nova Scotia Curling and more recently as a regional physical activity consultant for the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (Communities, Sport and Recreation Division). In his personal pursuits, Andrew founded Black Rock Initiative, a learn to curl program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) youth that connects curling clubs with the BIPOC community. Andrew is excited to be joining the CSI Atlantic team and to be the first in this position.
“I’m excited to listen to coaches and how we can best support them and to find creative and different ways to support them. If what we had in place was working then we wouldn’t need this position, so we know we need to get creative in how we support coaches and we need to support them differently,” said Paris.
While Paris is looking forward to his new role, he understands the commitment and work that lies ahead.
“Five years from now, the sport system is truly inclusive and reflects the diversity of our country and our province but that’s going to take some time to get there and some creative stuff.”
The EDI position includes a community coaching mentorship component, which will see Andrew traveling to communities across Nova Scotia on a regular basis. Andrew’s official start date is November 1, 2021.
